Review of The Pedestrian
The Pedestrian is about a man who walks around a city quietly in his neighborhood in the early 2050s. He is then later stopped by the police, which happens to be one police officer and that police officer is actually just an autonomous car. So, anyway the police car stops him because it think he’s crazy to walk around to get some fresh air. Sadly, the the man lives in a world, where everything is technological based. He likes to go out and write, while everyone else likes to sit home and watch television as if they were zombies. The whole meaning is that machines will ruin our colorful lives, but I highly doubt that as this story was written in the 1950s.
Review of Rome: Power and Glory – Legions of Conquest DVD
The Romans expanded and conquer much, using the best tactics, machinery, and weapons they can find, even if they must take them from their enemies. The Romans had such unwavering loyalty that they would never turn their backs and retreat from the enemy. Carthage was a great city that Roman sough out to conquer, starting the Punic Wars. The First Punic Wars the Romans were at a disadvantage, because they had no Navy. However, when a Carthage ship washed up the Italian Shore, they studiet it, and make their one fleet. Eventually, the Romans won. The Second Punic War began when the Carthaginian Hannibal attacked the Romans directly, where he won countless battles. Until, a Roman commander named Scipio invaded Carthage and defeated Hannibal at the Battle of Zama. Hannibal fled to Greece and committed suicide, while Carthage was burnt down by the Romans. Later, the military was reorganized into a permanent standing army. However, the generals, fought each other for Rome. One of which, was Julius Caesar who took over Rome after taking control of Gaul. Eventually, Augustus became Emperor, taking full control of the army. Rome soon became too large and fell apart. I liked this documentary.
Review of As English Spreads, Indonesians Fear For Their Language
The country of Indonesia is afraid that their language, which as known as Bahasa Indonesia, will soon die out due to the use of English. Many families are sending their children to Private schools that teach English, and then speak to them with English at home. The effect of this is that the children speak English very well, but do not know how to speak their own native language. This means that they may be unable to speak with their fellow country men and women who speak Bahasa Indonesia instead of English. English is also being looked upon as a higher status whilst their native language is looked down upon as a second-class status language.
I personally don’t see a problem with this, as I am a person who believes that most traditions hinder quite a few things that humanity is capable. I honestly believe that in the long run it would be better for Indonesia to switch to English entirely. Nation identity and pride don’t really have any useful benefits for anybody, so why not?
